Between the years of 2011-2012, the company management noticed that the evolution of the market and the continuous diversification of the distributed product portfolio, of logistics channels and afferent warehousing poses greater problems to the efficient business managements with the existing software. The biggest problem was the management of warehouse and logistics, especially in the central warehouse in Bucharest, but also in regional centers.
The company identified the need of replacing the existing software with a more modern solution, bringing improved performance by combining an ERP and WMS system which can function together. The need for a WMS solution is also given by the type of product delivered – medicine, baby food, etc., merchandise which requires a very strict lot control and traceability. Moreover, BIO accreditations for various brands imposed an extremely exigent control of the product supply chain. The current solution involved a warehouse process control only on product level (EAN code).
The Ascent ERP implementation with WMS, Distribution, Supply, Administration, Financial-Accounting and EDI modules for real-time data shift with key accounts has proven a viable solution for the achievement of the management team’s target starting with July 2012.
The integration of our warehouse management system in the logistic and storage activity brought the transition from managing entries and deliveries from an EAN code level to a batch number level. The entry and storing control process is delivered today in two steps: one in back-office ERP (reception within the document accompanying merchandise), the second in WMS where the product code and LOT is scanned or labeled with an internal lot series for the products that lack this type of identification. After emphasizing the back-office information (ERP) and the WMS check-in, using barcodes for the mobile scanner, the resulting status is reflected through associated colors – conforming receptions (ready to be capitalized in accounting) or receptions with quantity or position differences which are afterwards automatically approached through specific processes within the ERP in relation with the supplier.
